“And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”
-Luke 19:40 KJV
When God came to earth to live among men, He came with a message of pure love, forgiveness, and hope. However, some individuals during his time felt like His simple message went against their traditions and deeply held beliefs. They wanted to keep everything the way it had been for many years; after all, it’s hard when you are in a position of authority to acknowledge that your way of doing things might need to change. Interestingly, when the truth was presented and the Pharisees chose to remain hardened in their false beliefs, even the rocks—the hardest material of all—could not deny the truth.
Are you so entrenched in your way of doing things that the rocks in your life are crying out? How many trips to the emergency room have you made because of your kidney stones, gallstones, or the crystals that form in your knee, big toe, or elbow? How much plaque needs to build up in your arteries, or how many of your relationships have calcified because you refuse to acknowledge that your way of doing things isn’t working?
Like the men of Jesus’s day, you may choose to keep things the way they have always been, exhausting every good thing you have. However, if you choose not to hear the truth, sooner or later you will hear the stones. My prayer for you is that you will have the courage to listen and change.
