Jeremiah 51:63(NIV)
“When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates.”
Every different kind of stone in the world has a story to tell about its formation. It takes years of pressure and heat to create most stones, and thus everyone comes in a different shape and size, with its own beauty and luster. Each one is unique unto itself.
Stones serve a purpose in our society because they are essential to the building trade. They are useful to make tools, buildings, tabletops, and so much more. Some stones come from living things that have petrified over the years, while others were formed in the bowels of the earth by way of magma or lava. But with all the things that rocks are good for, they cannot do one thing: float. Thus, if you should ever find yourself struggling in water, a stone is something you might want to get rid of to better ensure your survival.
Are you refusing to let go of some things in your life that are clearly bringing you down? No one must tell you because you can see the results of it yourself. Have you refused to listen to your symptoms of shortness of breath, migraines, high blood pressure, or diabetes (I could go on)? Are you holding onto a relationship that is plagued with abuse and deceit, but your hair loss and depression are not enough inspiration to break free?
When nations refused to listen to the truth, God would give signs of their impending doom. Don’t take the scrolls that give you lifesaving advice and tie them to a rock. If you feel like you are drowning, it is time for you to listen to the truth and make the changes that can keep you from sinking any further. Cut your ties to the stone that is trying to sink you, and live. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it.
